Hens

Collective noun for a flock of hungry hens "the Rotavators"  Beware if you have young plants of letting your girls free range around the garden. Mature plants are not at risk as after an initial frenzy for anything green, they settle down and have a good scratch for bugs and things. They can cause merry havoc in a small garden if let loose.

Here is the entrance to the hen house from the Kitchen Garden. It is built under the shelter of a large pine tree and tends to get a hairy roof with the shedding pine needles! It does however provide shelter from the elements as chooks doen't like getting wet.

The run is built along the same lines as the fruit cage with a wooden frame, and backs onto the meadow.
